From Oaxaca City to Puerto Escondido & Mazunte - A Visual Story

Aktualisiert: 7. März 2023

When I was solo traveling through Mexico in 2021, I fell in love with Oaxaca. It's full of natural beauty with colonial architecture, mountains in the backdrop and incredibly rich in culture, art and culinary. The city is a lively mix of colors, spices and scents, markets, traditions and festivities.

The Mitla ruins, a cotton factory & mezcal factory

It's a day in November in 2021 and I'm traveling through Mexico. I'm on a trip through the state of Oaxaca. The Mitla ruins, a cotton factory, a mezcal factory and an old village is the plan. I thought about postponing the trip - I feel sick. Arriving at the mezcal factory (a spirit from the agave plant) we learn how mezcal is extracted and produced (so interesting!) The lady doing the tour realizes I'm not at my best. She tells me from her experience some mezcal would ultimately help. Curious by nature I give it a try. It tastes like smokey tequila. And surprisingly I do feel better, at least, warmer.

Puerto Escondido: the Fisher & the Sea

Few things in life are better than sunsets watched from the beach. Sunsets in Puerto Escondido clearly are. When I was coming from a 8-hour bus ride from Oaxaca city up and down the hills, Puerto warmly welcomed me. Huge waves crushing onto the beach, purple colors of the sun setting, and the fishermen peacefully in the back - you will never want to leave Puerto.

In Puerto Escondido life circles around the sea. Catching waves, meeting people from around the world on the beach, yoga classes, watching the sunset by the Ocean and cuddling cute street dogs.
